The Road Traffic Safety Directorate of Latvia (Latvian abbreviation CSDD) was established in 1991 and charged with all of the functions related to preparing motor vehicles and their drivers for road driving. The basic functions of the CSDD include registering of motor vehicles, administration of driving tests for those who wish to receive a driver's license, issuance of those licenses, and administration of technical inspections of motor vehicles.
