The Register of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate
The Road Traffic Safety Directorate of Latvia (Latvian abbreviation CSDD) was established in 1991 and charged with all of the functions related to preparing motor vehicles and their drivers for road driving. The basic functions of the CSDD include registering of motor vehicles, administration of driving tests for those who wish to receive a driver's license, issuance of those licenses, and administration of technical inspections of motor vehicles. CSDD provides services on the basis of the Register of motor vehicles and their drivers. Indeed, this register was the first computerized information system to be declared of national importance, and this occurred on February 12, 1997.
